Dubai International Marine Club organized the “Ramadan Captain Gathering” at the Umm Suqeim Majlis in Jumeirah, Dubai, in a distinctive Ramadan atmosphere that brought together captains , sailors, and marine heritage enthusiasts. The event reflected the club’s commitment to strengthening community ties and reinforcing the authentic maritime values deeply rooted in the UAE’s national identity.
The gathering witnessed the attendance of several veteran captains, members of the club’s Board of Directors, athletes, and prominent community figures. Attendees exchanged friendly conversations and shared memories and experiences from traditional dhow sailing races and heritage boat competitions, recalling the remarkable achievements of marine sports in the UAE.
Mohammed Al Marri, Director of the Sports Affairs Department at the Dubai International Marine Club, affirmed that the event forms part of the club’s initiatives aimed at enhancing communication between generations and transferring the accumulated expertise of pioneers to younger sailors. He noted that such efforts contribute to preserving the UAE’s maritime heritage and strengthening its presence among new generations, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, which represents an opportunity to promote values of unity, compassion, and social connection.
Al Marri also emphasized the importance of these gatherings in maintaining close communication with nokhathas throughout the sports season. A similar forum had been organized earlier, and this latest meeting comes as the season approaches its decisive stages, with anticipation building for several major races—most notably the prestigious Al Gaffal Race, scheduled to take place between April and May.
The gathering featured open discussion sessions addressing the development of traditional marine races and highlighting the role of captains in instilling values of leadership, responsibility, and teamwork. Participants also reviewed the club’s future plans and programs aimed at advancing marine sports across various categories. The captain expressed their appreciation for the club’s continuous efforts to foster open communication channels and promote a unified team spirit among all members of the UAE’s marine sports community.
The Dubai International Marine Club continues to organize community and sporting events throughout the year, reaffirming its mission to support both traditional and modern marine sports and to preserve the UAE’s rich maritime heritage, which remains an integral part of the nation’s history.
